Using the POP Server Email Wizard

The POP Server Email wizard enables you to test the functionality of a Post Office Protocol (POP) e-mail server and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server by specifying a server name and e-mail addresses to use.

Reveille sends an e-mail message to the TO address from the FROM address through the specified server. If the e-mail message is successfully sent, Reveille deletes the message from the Inbox and repeats the process as specified in the Monitor.

To test the functionality of a POP e-mail server and SMTP server using the POP Server Email wizard, follow these steps:

  1. From the Add Monitor Tests Using Wizard dialog, select POP Server Email Wizard and click OK. The POP Server Email Wizard window appears.
  2. Click Next.  The Settings wizard page appears with the POP Server Settings tab automatically activated.
  3. Under Web Server Performing Test, enter the name of the Web server performing the Test.
  4. Under POP Server (incoming), enter the name of the POP server to be tested. For example:

    You can enter an address.
    mail.yourcompany.com

    -OR-

    You can enter an address and port.
    mail.yourcompany.com:33
  5. Under User Name, enter the user name that is used to connect to the POP server.
  6. Under Password, enter the password that is used to connect to the POP server.
  7. Under Confirm Password, enter the password again.
  8. Select Encrypt User Name and Password to encrypt the log on data in the registry. This prevents the data from being displayed in scripts or other Reveille windows.
  9. Select Use the same credentials for POP and SMTP servers to use the same User Name and Password for the SMTP server.

    Go to step 10.
  10. Click the SMTP Server Settings tab.
  11. Under SMTP Server (outgoing), enter the name of the SMTP server to be tested. For example:

    You can enter an address.
    mail.yourcompany.com

    -OR-

    You can enter an address and port.
    mail.yourcompany.com:33
  12. If you selected Use the same credentials for POP and SMTP servers under POP Server Settings, the User Name and Password fields are automatically populated. If not, enter information into those fields.
  13. Select Encrypt User Name and Password to encrypt the log on data in the registry.  This prevents the data from being displayed in scripts or other Reveille windows.
  14. Select Next.  The SMTP Email Settings page appears.
  15. Under From (email address), enter the e-mail address from which you are sending the message.
    Under To (email address), enter the e-mail address to which you are sending the message.
  16. Click Next.  The Test Definition wizard page appears.
  17. Under Resource Name, enter the name of the Monitor Resource associated with the POP server Test.  
    Under Test Description, enter a description of the POP server Test.
  18. Under Resource Name, enter the name of the Monitor Resource associated with the SMTP server Test.  
    Under Test Description, enter a description of the SMTP server Test.
  19. Select Auto-generate Resource Name to automatically generate the Resource Name based on the Host Name.
  20. Select Run Test to run the current Test. The Test Result dialog appears.
  21. Close the Test Result dialog, and click Add Test.  The POP Server Email Wizard dialog appears.
  22. Click OK.  Click Next. The final page appears.
  23. Click Finish.

The Left Navigational Pane shows the new Resource and Test.
