Configuring Alert Settings

The e-mail configuration settings on the Local Monitor Server enable you to:

  • Specify the e-mail addresses for the sender and receiver of application error notifications.
  • Specify the Mail Server to be used instead of the default IIS SMTP server.

To configure alerts:

  1. From the Left Navigational Pane, select the Local Monitor Server.

  2. In the right pane, click the Alerts tab.

  3. Complete the following:

Alert Settings.Set the e-mail address for the individual or group responsible for sending and receiving the application error notifications.

From:

Enter the e-mail address for the person sending the application error notifications.

To:

Email recipient
Enter the e-mail address for the person who is to receive application error notifications.

Remote Windows event log
Select to send alerts to the Windows event log on the specified server.  

You are specifying the name of the remote server where the event log is located. This can be the name or the IP address of the server.  
You can specify the name (for example, Server01) or the IP address (for example, 10.0.23.34).  

Local Windows event log

Select to send alerts to the local Windows event log.

Test (button)

Click to send a test alert notification to the alert recipients.

Mail Server Settings (Optional). Specify the Mail Server address (or address + port) for sending e-mail notifications. (By default, the local IIS SMTP server is used.)

Server Address

Specify the Mail Server address.  

You can specify the address. For example:

 mail.yourcompany.com
-OR-
You can specify the address and port. For example:

 mail.yourcompany.com:33

Credentials

Select a system-wide credential. These are defined through the Credentials Manager. You can also click the button next to the field to display the Credentials window and create a new credential definition.

To refresh the list, right-click the field and click Refresh.

A [None] entry indicates that credentials are not used.

Use SSL/TLS Select the check box to use Secure Sockets layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) for added communications security over networks.

SNMP Trap Settings (Optional). Enter the settings to send traps to SNMP hosts

SNMP Version

Select: 

Version 1. The oldest version of SNMP trap formats. This version is supported by most SNMP compatible devices. (Default.)

Version 2. This version supports 64-bit counters.

Version 3. This newer version supports encryption. If selected, the Advanced button becomes available.

MIB

(Management Information Base.) Select Simple (one trap var bind)or Detailed (individual trap var binds, default).

Community

Select Public, or Private, or enter your community value.

Advanced (button)

Click to define the configuration settings for SNMP version 3. This button is only available when version 3 is selected. Define the following:.

  • User Name. Type the user name for the version 3 SNMP host.
  • Authentication Password. Type the password for the version 3 SNMP host.
  • Authentication Protocol. Select the authentication protocol to be used for the SNMP host: MD5 or SHA.
  • Encryption Password. Type the encryption password to be used for the version 3 SNMP host.
  • Encryption Algorithm. Select the encryption algorithm to be used with the version 3 SNMP host: DES, AES, Triple DES, AES192, or AES256.
  • Engine ID. Use the default Reveille Engine ID, or type the engine ID for your network supporting the version 3 SNMP host.

Test (button)

Click to send a test SNMP trap. Define the following:

  • Address. Type the address where you want to send the test trap.
  • Message. Type the message that you want to send.

Note:  If you change any configuration options, you are asked to Save when you select another component on the Left Navigational Pane.
