Editing Monitor Settings

If a Monitor has been granted access to Web administration, you can edit its General, Interval, and Reporting options from the Reveille Web interface. Monitor settings are initially configured using the Reveille Admin console. See Monitors for more information.

Note:  When you set options for Monitors from the Reveille Web interface, your changes are not reflected in the Reveille Admin console until the Monitor is stopped and restarted.  See Administering Monitors for more information.

To set Monitor options in the Reveille Web interface:

  1. In the Left Navigation Pane, click Administration > Monitors. The list of monitors is displayed.
  2. Click Edit in the row entry of the Monitor you are updating. The Edit Settings for Monitor page is displayed.
  3. Select Monitor in the Settings For selection field.
  4. Edit the General Settings:
  • Server. Enables you to select a new Worker Server to be associated with the Monitor.
  • Description.  Specifies a long description of the Monitor.
  • Include on Web Home Page. If selected, enables the Monitor to be viewed on the Reveille User Console.
  • Position. Indicates the position of the Monitor results on the left-hand side of the Home page, under View Group/Monitors.
  • Type. Indicates the Monitor type, either Test or Production.

IMPORTANT: To be viewed through the Dashboard , the Type for a Remote Monitor must be set to Production.
  • Session Throttle. A session throttle key and session throttle threshold can optionally be set to limit the number of Monitors with the same key running at the same time. This enables you to group similar Monitors and limit the number of concurrent Monitor sessions with the same key based on some restriction such as performance or access. A value of 0 for the threshold means there is no Monitor session limit.
  1. Change the Interval Settings.
  • Start Testing Cycle Every. Indicates the interval at which to start the Monitor for testing.
  • If Application Errors Exist, Start Testing Cycle Every. Indicates the interval at which to start the Monitor for testing if application errors exist.
  • Notify (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Level 4, Level 5) Support After. Indicates when to notify the different levels of support.
  1. Define Auto Retest settings. You can define the number of retests (Count), and the amount of time in seconds between the retests (Delay).
  2. Modify the Browser Settings. Edit the Certificate Name and then enable (check) or disable (uncheck) the following:
  • Use Client Side Cookies. Should be enabled for all browser-based Monitors and is required for all Aviva-based Monitors.
  • Ignore Remote Certificate Name Mismatch.. Enables Monitor-level control for handling an invalid remote certificate name during SSL session negotiation.
  • Ignore Remote Certificate Chain Error. Enables Monitor-level control for handling an invalid remote certificate chain error (invalid chain of trust) during SSL session negotiation.
  • Ignore Remote Certificate Not Available. Enables Monitor-level control to ignore remote certificates during SSL session negotiation.
  • Disable Auto Redirect. Disables auto page redirects within a Web page.
  • Turn off http keep alive. Sets http header keep alive to "false" to cause an http connection to disconnect.
  • Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) for https connections. Enables TLS to be used for HTTPS connections. This is a monitor level setting, so each monitor can be set to send HTTPS requests using the protocol selected for that monitor.

Select Default to send HTTPS request using the TLS 1.0 protocol, the .NET default.

Recommendation: Use the same TLS protocol for monitors on the same Reveille server. If monitors using different protocols (such as TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2) execute at the same time on the same Reveille server, there is a small time window when an incomplete SSL session setup for one monitor could interfere with another monitor using a different TLS protocol during SSL session setup.
  1. Under Report Settings, edit the Service Level Agreement options:
  • Critical Threshold (red): Availability less than. Indicates that the Critical threshold is met if availability is less than the percentage entered.
  • Warning Threshold (yellow): Availability less than. Indicates that the Warning threshold is met if availability is less than the percentage entered.
  • Allowed Down Time. Specifies the number of minutes that the system is allowed to be down.

Values entered in the preceding three fields are reflected on the Service Level Analysis Report.  See Understanding the Service Level Analysis Report for more information.

  1. Under Report Settings, change the Customer Experience setting.

    Seconds Over Expected Response Time.
Indicates the maximum amount of seconds the Monitor response time must be in order for information to be displayed on the Customer Experience Report.  See Generating the Customer Experience Report for more information.
  2. Click Save when you are finished.
